Summary

Dora and Boots need to help Benny fix his hot air balloon. It has a hole in it, and they have to patch it with sticky tape. They must hurry, because if they don't plug the hole in time, Benny and his balloon will crash into Crocodile Lake!

Plot

Dora and Boots were just hanging out when they heard a voice shouting, "Sticky Taaaaaape!" They looked up in the sky and saw their friend Benny in his balloon. Dora & Boots couldn't hear what Benny was saying. Dora asked the viewer What he is saying. Dora asks Benny why he needs sticky tape. He explained that he needed sticky tape to fix the hole in his balloon, and fast! Dora and Boots got some sticky tape out of Dora's backpack. They started racing after Benny's balloon, but it disappeared behind the clouds. Dora and Boots needed to figure out where it was heading, so they asked Map for help. Map said the balloon was going to crocodile lake. Before they could get there, Dora and Boots had to go across a windy river and over a slippery rock. Their goal was to get the sticky tape to Benny before the balloon falls into the lake.

As Dora and Boots get going, Backpack's strap broke and fell. "Ay, me cai!" she shouted. Dora soon hears her and uses the sticky tape to fix her strap. After that, Dora and Boots reach the windy river. It was so windy that Benny was getting toward the lake fast. Dora and Boots needed to figure out how to get across the windy river. Tico was on a sailboat. Dora asks him if he could give a ride. Tico says he can, but his sail has five holes in it. Dora and Boots gave Tico five pieces of sticky tape. They count in Spanish from uno to cinco. After Tico fixes the sail, they get on and put on their life jackets so they could be safe. After they made it across the windy river, Dora and Boots get going to the slippery rock. On their way, they saw Mamí Blue Bird on her nest. The wind was blowing so hard that the tree branch broke, making nest fall and some holes appear in it. So Dora uses the sticky tape to fix the nest. Swiper shows up, but Dora and Boots stop him from swiping the sticky tape. After that, they reach the slippery rock. Boots tried to climb it, but it was too slippery for him to climb. So they needed the sticky tape to tie it around their footwear to help. After climbing across the slippery rock, they now get going to crocodile lake to help Benny.

Just then, Swiper shows up again, and this time, he swiped the sticky tape. Dora and Boots manage to find it. After that, Dora and Boots reach Benny. Benny drops down a net ladder so they could climb up. Suddenly, the ladder's rung broke. They used the sticky tape to fix it. Once they got into the balloon, Boots climbed up and patched the hole with tape, fixing the balloon and helping it rise away from the crocodiles.

Trivia

  • This is the first episode where Dora is seen without Backpack.
    • It was only an accident because Backpack's strap broke off.
  • This is the first episode where Dora explains her favorite part before Boots explains his favorite part.
  • This is the third episode (and the second in a row) to find Swiper.
  • The sticky tape will later be used in the episode "Backpack!" to fix the rope on the Big Rock, in the episode "The Magic Stick" to stick the broken paddle to the magic stick, and in the episode "Dora's Pirate Adventure" to fix the pirate wheel on the boat.
  • Isa does not appear in this episode.
  • This episode had two bodies of water (a river and a lake).
  • This is the first of two episodes to be released on videocassette.
  • This is the 14th episode of the show.
  • This is the last episode featuring an old blue cursor. There will be a brand new cursor in the next episode.
  • This is the only episode to feature Crocodile Lake as the final destination.
  • Just like with "Hic-Boom-Ohhh!", Dora and Boots do not ask the question "Where are we going?". They instead ask the question "What do we need?"
    • This question will be later asked in Dora's Dance to the Rescue in place of "Where are we going?".
    • Diego will ask that same question after Rescue Pack's segments in Go, Diego, Go!, sometimes asked as "What do I need?"
  • This was the the third episode where Dora and Boots stop Swiper from swiping an object the first time, but he does swipe the same object the second time he shows up for revenge, just like Boots' floatie and the blue key in Beaches and Treasure Island respectively.
  • This was later adapted into a sticker book at the Nick Jr. website.
  • This is the last episode for the glow effect to fade on and off as the blue cursor clicks on something.
    • Starting with the next episode, when the blue cursor clicks on something, it now emits a split-second rapid glow.
  • This episode and Berry Hunt were the first two episodes to be released onto videocassette; they appeared on "Swing Into Action!", the first ever VHS tape of the series.
    • Because this was the first episode on the aforementioned VHS, this was the first episode to ever see a VHS release.
  • This is the fifth time Swiper was stopped and failed to stop in the same episode, following The Legend of the Big Red Chicken, Beaches, Choo-Choo!, and Treasure Island. It will happen again in the next episode.
  • This is the first time the "Whoo!" at the very end of the We Did It! song (just before the blue cursor clicks Dora) is said in Boots' own voice; as most of the time, it is spoken by Dora's voice actor.
  • This episode premiered on Benny's voice actor's birthday.
  • Even though the snake was drawn differently from the Beaches episode, this is the second episode with a snake jumpscare.

Goofs/Errors

Dora's face changes Dora's face changes
Dora's face changes
  • At the start of the episode, Dora has her Season 1, Version 3 face, but after getting on Tico's boat, it changes to the Season 1, Version 2 face for the rest of the episode.
  • During part of the Travel Song for a second time, Backpack's strap was purple and did not have any sticky tape mended on it, because the producers recycled the animation and forgot to make it have sticky tape.
  • When Swiper swipes the sticky tape, Dora and Boots actually pause for three seconds upon starting to say, "Swiper, no...!" before he swipes it.
  • When Dora and Boots are slipping on the Slippery Rock, Boots has teeth, this occurs the second time on The Super Silly Fiesta.

Running Gags

  • Benny keeps yelling "Sticky Tape!!!"
  • Whenever Map and Dora say Crocodile Lake (when telling where to go), a crocodile pops out of the lake.
