Summary

Dora and Boots play doctor and find a way to make their friends feel better. They also need to help Benny cure his sneezes.

Plot

Dora and Boots decided to play doctors. Dora showed the viewer her stethoscope, explaining that doctors use it to listen to a person's heartbeat. Boots wanted to hear his own heart, so Dora began to search for it. She checked his foot and his head, but his heart wasn't there. Finally, she found it in his chest! Dora listened intently with her stethoscope, and Boots' heart went "thump-thump, thump-thump, thump-thump." Dora was amazed by how strong his heart sounded.

Suddenly, a big, loud sneeze echoed from afar. Boots immediately knew it meant someone had "the sneezes," and Dora realized someone needed their help. "Doctor Dora to the rescue!" she shouted, quickly tucking her stethoscope into her backpack. As Dora and Boots started walking, Dora abruptly stopped, causing Boots to bump into her. They realized they didn't know where the sneezing was coming from.

They called on Map for help. Map pinpointed the source of the sneezes! A barn roof briefly jumped up, and the blue cursor clicked on Benny before the roof settled back down. Map revealed that Benny the bull had the sneezes and was in his barn. To reach Benny's Barn, they needed to go through the jungle and over the Big Hill. Each time Benny sneezed, his barn roof would jump up and then return to its place. Ready to help their friend, Dora and Boots set off.

Their first challenge was the jungle. Along the way, they were stopped by Cocodrilo, a Spanish-speaking crocodile who blocked their path. Cocodrilo swished his tail, and it got stuck in a thorny bush. As he pulled it out, his tail was now covered in thorns. He began crying in pain. Dora calmly told Cocodrilo to relax and quickly removed the thorns. He thanked her. But now, they needed to heal his "boo-boos."

Dora and Boots checked Backpack. Inside, they found lollipops and stickers (green, red, blue, and yellow), a box of bandages, liquid soap, the stethoscope, and a box of tissues. They chose the box of bandages to heal Cocodrilo's tail. As good doctors, they decided to give each patient a treat. So, they took out a green lollipop and a green sticker with a treasure chest on it. Boots held the treats in his hands.

They needed to know how many boo-boos Cocodrilo had. They counted in Spanish and discovered he had seven. This meant they needed seven bandages. After carefully applying the bandages, Boots handed Cocodrilo the green lollipop and sticker, explaining that the sticker had a treasure chest on it, and praising him for being a good patient. Cocodrilo responded, "Gracias por su ayuda" (Thank you for your help). Dora and Boots replied, "De nada" (You're welcome). As they waved goodbye to Cocodrilo, who now allowed them to pass, they heard Benny sneeze again.

Finally through the jungle, Dora and Boots began heading for the Big Hill. They soon spotted Big Red Chicken by a bush, struggling with a bucket stuck on his foot. It wouldn't come off! Dora and Boots tried pulling, but it was on tight. They realized they needed something slippery. Luckily, Backpack had just the thing: slippery liquid soap! They also decided to give Big Red Chicken a lollipop and sticker. They took out the red lollipop and sticker.

Dora squirted some liquid soap into the bucket and put the bottle back in her backpack. Dora and Boots tried pulling again, and with a final tug, the bucket slipped right off! Boots handed Big Red Chicken the red lollipop and the red sticker with a star on it, commending him for his patience. They heard Benny sneeze once more. Dora and Boots went between Big Red Chicken's feet, and he waved goodbye as they continued on their mission to help Benny.

Their next obstacle was the Big Hill. At the bottom, they found Azul, the blue train. Dora greeted him with "Hola, Azul," and Boots added, "Hi, Azul." Azul said hello, but seemed rather sad. They asked Azul what was wrong, and he explained he'd lost his whistle in one of his four train cars. Neither Dora nor Boots could hear it. They checked Backpack for something to help them listen. Backpack provided the perfect tool: the stethoscope! They also grabbed a blue lollipop and sticker for Azul.

Dora caught the stethoscope, and Boots caught the blue lollipop and sticker. Dora handed the stethoscope to Boots, who listened carefully to the sounds coming from the four train cars. He heard a "ding-ding," a "boom-boom," a "choo-choo," and a "wail-wail." The viewer helped Dora and Boots by telling them the whistle was in Car 3. They checked, and sure enough, it was there! They then opened the other cars to see what made the other sounds. Car 1 had a bell (ding-ding), Car 2 had a drum (boom-boom), and Car 4 had a toy firetruck (wail-wail). Dora and Boots laughed, then put Azul's whistle back in place. Boots placed the blue lollipop and blue sticker, which had a train on it, on Azul's front buffer.

Azul asked where they were going. They explained they needed to go over the Big Hill to reach Benny's Barn because Benny had the sneezes. Azul offered them a ride! Dora and Boots cheered, chanting "chugga-chugga choo choo" several times. In no time, Azul had them over the Big Hill. Dora and Boots thanked Azul for the ride. They had successfully navigated the jungle and the Big Hill, bringing them closer to Benny's Barn.

Dora and Boots finally arrived at Benny's Barn. Benny greets them, but starts sneezing again. "Bless you, Benny," Dora said. "You don't sound so good," Boots added. Benny explained he couldn't stop sneezing and wished he had some tissues. Luckily, Dora had tissues in Backpack, and they couldn't forget Benny's lollipop and sticker to help him feel better. As they got the tissues, yellow lollipop, and sticker, they heard Swiper! Benny worried Swiper would try to swipe the tissues, while Boots thought he might go for the lollipop and sticker too. Dora, Boots, and Benny kept a watchful eye out. They stopped Swiper by saying "Swiper no swiping" three times, and he ran away. Benny thanked Dora and Boots for the tissues; now he could blow his nose.

However, Benny was still sneezing and wished his sneezes would just go away. Dora reassured him not to worry, and Boots added that Doctor Dora was excellent at helping people. Dora and Boots paused to think. Dora recalled that she sneezes when she has a cold and asked Benny if he had one. Benny said he didn't feel sick at all, just fine, except for the sneezes. Boots said that he sneezes when he has allergies. Dora wondered if Benny might be allergic to something in his barn.

They looked around Benny's Barn. Benny didn't sneeze when he sniffed the feather pillow nor when he sniffed the hay. But as he sniffed a big orange flower, he immediately started sneezing. So, Benny was allergic to the flower! Boots walked over, and picked up the flower. Benny explained he had just gotten it that day. Boots decided to put it outside, and as soon as he did, Benny's sneezes were gone! Boots came back and gave Benny the yellow lollipop and yellow sticker with a teddy bear on it. Benny thanked Dora and Boots for curing his sneezes.

Trivia

  • The Travel Song is sung and heard only once, because the other two times, Dora and Boots no longer sing it again.
  • This episode features updated character animation consistent with early Season 2.
  • If one looks closely, when Swiper is about to snap his fingers, he actually makes the starting position of the finger snap correctly (the middle finger and thumb pressed together), as opposed to other episodes where he does it wrong (using the index finger instead).
  • This episode is very similar to Hic-Boom-Ohhh!.
  • Dora and Boots use all their medical tools, lollipops, and stickers from Backpack.
    • This makes it the second time that all the items inside Backpack are used in a certain order after Backpack!.
    • But unlike the aforementioned episode, however, Dora takes out two items (one being an item used to help the patient and the other being a lollipop and a sticker for the patient) at a time, meaning that Backpack was called four times.
  • This is the second episode where Azul is seen without his whistle, first being Choo-Choo!.
  • Isa and Tico do not appear in this episode.
  • This is the 34th episode of the show.
  • As of this episode, Dora's voice again becomes higher.

Scene from the commercial.

  • It is unknown how Swiper got to Benny's Barn. He also somehow got there in Pinto, the Pony Express.
  • Although 'Doctor Dora' did not air on Nick Jr. until February 9, 2010, a clip of Dora and Boots waving goodbye was used in an April 2003 alphabet-themed commercial for Noggin." (source)
  • This is one of three episodes that had never been released to home video in the US, the other two being The Legend of the Big Red Chicken (which was the first episode of the show, ironically) and Whose Birthday is It?.
  • In the YouTube version, the voiceovers are removed for the sped-up credits, but the blue cursor sound effects are left in due to the beginning of the credit music used, causing it to be out-of-sync. When the credits end, it cuts to the 1999-2007 Nick Jr. Productions logo, ending with a whoosh to the left.

Goofs/Errors

  • In real life, house roofs (or roofs in general) do not jump, even when one sneezes. Also, you are unable to hear things inside train cars from the outside in real life.
  • In real life, a lollipop would fall off if one puts it on the train (both this and the jumping roof do not apply here due to cartoon logic).
  • In some scenes, Dora has her Season 1 face.
  • When Boots puts the flower that Benny was allergic to outside his barn, he comes from the right side of the screen to give him the lollipop and sticker even though he was outside. He should have been seen re-entering his barn from the left of the screen.
  • After Dora and Boots leave the jungle, the cocodrilo's bandages and the bush that gave him the thorns disappear. Also, Dora is not seen taking the paper off the back of each bandage. She just puts them on Cocodrilo's tail, so they would not have stuck if she immediately took them out of the box.

Running Gags

  • Whenever Benny sneezes in his barn onscreen, the roof jumps.
  • Dora keeps shouting "Doctor Dora to the rescue!" on her way to Benny's Barn.
